Kathleen was raised in the suburbs of Chicago and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and relocated to Washington D.C. She was a Research Associate with the Environmental Policy Institute before joining the staff of Senator Paul Simon. In 1989 she completed her graduate work at Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law and found employment at the United States Environmental Protection Agency, in Washington, D.C.

In 1995 she visited the farm of Miracle the sacred White Buffalo in Janesville, Wisconsin. Kathleen appreciates Dee Brown's sentiments in his introduction to Doug Boyd's Rolling Thunder. There he said that "Almost everyone who has ventured even slightly into the spiritual world of the American Indian can related inexplicable happenings." Inexplicable happenings describe a series of events that occured at Miracle's farm throughout the years Kathleen was a guest there. In By the Side of the Buffalo Pasture, Kathleen describes those visits as well as Miracle's influence on Kathleen's spiritual journey.

In 1997, Kathleen moved to North Carolina to focus on writing. Some of her commentaries were published in the local newspapers. By the Side of the Buffalo Pasture, a memoir of visits to Miracle’s farm, was published in August of 2006. Kathleen journeyed to Haiti in the Spring of 2000 and published Reflections on a Haitian Pilgrimage in August of 2009. This tale continues her commemoration of Miracle's influence on her life. Kathleen is currently working on Walls which will complete her trilogy of tribute to Miracle.

Her desire to share the experience of having visited Miracle led to the creation of a meditation workshop. Titled Intuitive Grace, it is based on excerpts from her first book. During the workshop, Kathleen leads participants on an imaginary journey to the side of Miracle's pasture.

"I met so many people who had heard of Her and wanted to see Her, but were unable to visit Her.
By telling my story, I hope to share the beauty of Her myth as well as the magic of Her presence."

"This book will touch the hearts of those who may not consider themselves spiritual. Others will identify with the struggle to rationalize a belief in a just and loving God with an awareness of the harsh realities of life."
