Stories inspire me. Some of them offer hope and understanding, insights into life and love, fear and failure. They have been told for generations. Before the written word, myths and legends offered all age groups explanations for the myteries of the universe. One very old tale, the Legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman, has captivated me because it reveals the sacred stature of Miracle, the White Buffalo of Janesville, Wisconsin. She was born August 20, 1994 and died September 19, 2004. And I think She was part of a living legend. The story of a White Buffalo born on a farm in Wisconsin might not change most people's lives. But there are many threads in every life. They are woven together to create individual tapestries displaying what we have been taught, learned through personal experience and endured through circumstance. Sometimes, the events of one day can change the whole pattern. Meeting Miracle changed mine and I explain how this happened in By the Side of the Buffalo Pasture. Reflections on a Haitian Pilgrimage continues the story of Miracle's influence on my life throughout a mission trip to Haiti that I took in the Spring of 2000. |

I met many people who had heard of Her and wanted to see Her, but were unable to visit Her. By telling my story, I hope to share the beauty of Her myth as well as the magic of Her presence. |
I visited Haiti before the earthquake. Since that time many images of the challenges of the Haitian people have been seen by most of the world. This story shares my struggle to rationalize a belief in a just and loving God with an awareness of the harsh realities of life.
