This is a photo of my first book. It’s a story about my visits to see Miracle, a White Buffalo who was born and lived on a farm in Janesville, Wisconsin from August 1994 until September 2004.

To Native Americans a White Buffalo is very sacred. They are reminiscent of a holy woman who appeared long ago. Her story is told in the ancient Legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman. It's a beautiful story about angels and gifts and hope. I didn't know this legend when I first went to see Miracle. When I got to the farm, She had turned color and was no longer white. That's why the buffalo in the picture is brown.
Turning colors is part of the legend. It's in accordance with the themes of the sacred Medicine Wheel. In my book, I tell Her Legend as I learned it. I also share what I was taught about the Medicine Wheel.
